What is Active Matter?
Active Matter is a hardcore online PvPvE extraction shooter developed by Matter Team and published by Gaijin Network Ltd. It left its paid Early Version behind on September 15, 2026, when the full release arrived on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
You play an operative stuck in a time loop: pick a loadout, drop into a quantum-unstable zone, harvest active matter, fight rival operatives and the things that used to be human, then extract before the zone ceases to exist. Progression runs through a syndicate base, a seasonal Harmonization Cycle and the Monolith access track.

- Is Active Matter free to play?
- No. It is a buy-to-play game: the Standard Edition is $29.99 in the US, with Advanced and Deluxe editions sold as upgrades. Official sources describe the edition difference as the starting selection of weapons, equipment and in-game resources — the content itself is identical.
- Is there a PvE mode?
- Yes. Besides the PvPvE extraction raids there is a dedicated PvE mode, and you can play solo or in a squad of up to three. Some zones are PvPvE-only, some PvP-only and some PvE-only.
- Does Active Matter have crossplay?
- Yes. The official FAQ states the game has cross-platform multiplayer, and on consoles you choose where matchmaking looks: only your platform, consoles only, or any platform.
- Is it on PS5 and Xbox?
- Yes. It released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 15, 2026, alongside PC. Xbox One is not supported — the Xbox version is for Series X|S.
