The current Active Matter build is 0.4.0.122, released on September 18, 2026, and the game took six numbered updates between September 10 and September 18, 2026, roughly one build every day or two across the launch window. The official roadmap is still unpublished as of September 21, 2026, even though the studio said it would arrive within a couple of weeks after release. Everything below carries its date, because on a game six days past launch the timestamps are the story.

Active Matter patch timeline (September 2026)

The studio's own news feed is the primary record for this game, and every build number, date and summary in the table below comes from it. The two most recent builds, 0.4.0.115 and 0.4.0.122, also appear in the Steam news feed, while the entries for 0.4.0.78 and 0.4.0.84 rest on the official feed alone (single source). Each entry is the official post for that build, which is the changelog format this game publishes.

How fast is the patch cadence?

Six builds in nine days is launch-window rhythm rather than a long-run average, and the split shows why. 0.4.0.76, 0.4.0.78, 0.4.0.84 and 0.4.0.93 all landed before the September 15, 2026 release, while 0.4.0.115 and 0.4.0.122 arrived after it. The studio has published no fixed schedule, so the accurate answer to how often the game updates is that it has been every day or two since launch and no cadence has been promised.

The content of those builds skewed toward systems and presentation rather than new territory. The changes adjusted repair and restoration costs, how Distorted react and wake, animations, interface elements and sound, with no region added in the window shown. The forward-looking half of the same feed points one direction: the official site states in its locations section that new doors open with every update, so staged content is the stated plan and the roadmap is where its detail should appear.

Where the roadmap stands on September 21, 2026

No roadmap has been published as of September 21, 2026. The official FAQ and the post-release plans paragraph on the Steam store page say the same thing, that it will be published within a couple of weeks after release, and both were read on that date. Until it appears, the newest forward-looking official post is the content creator program from September 21, 2026, and the newest concrete change is build 0.4.0.122 from September 18, 2026.

If you are tracking when the next update lands, the official news feed is the only place worth watching, because build numbers appear there first and third-party lists lag behind it. That feed also carries the timing posts that explain the rest of the window, such as the worldwide launch times announcement on September 14, 2026. A roadmap page on this site will only be worth adding once the studio publishes targets rather than past builds.

Events and rewards running now

Three dated items from the same feed are live or just past, and none of them is a patch. Twitch Drops and the Merits award share the September 18, 2026 date, while the creator program refresh landed on September 21, 2026, the same day this page was last checked. Rewards rather than fixes are what this part of the feed carries, which is worth knowing if you are hunting for gameplay changes.

The Merits award is retrospective, covering play that already happened between September 10 and September 15, 2026, and it is documented in the September 18, 2026 news post alone (single source). Twitch Drops are the one item on the list still open on September 21, 2026, closing on September 25, 2026 at 15:00 UTC. The rules behind Merits themselves are covered on wipe.

FAQ

When is the Active Matter roadmap coming out?
It has not been published as of September 21, 2026. The official FAQ and the post-release plans paragraph on the Steam store page both said the roadmap would be published within a couple of weeks after the September 15, 2026 release (both read September 21, 2026), so the only certain statement today is that it is still pending.
