Active Matter Crossplay: PC, PS5 & Xbox
Active Matter crossplay: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series play together, how the console matchmaking scope works, and why progress does not follow you between platforms.
Crossplay is on in Active Matter as of September 21, 2026, so PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players share the same matchmaking pool — with one twist: console players can narrow that pool deliberately. The official FAQ confirms cross-platform play and lists three matchmaking scopes for console players: their own platform only, consoles only, or any platform including PC. What crossplay does not give you is cross-progression, because shared progress exists only between the Steam and Gaijin.Net versions on PC. This page covers which platforms match together, how the scope option behaves, and what stays locked to each system.
Does Active Matter support crossplay?
It does, and crossplay covers all three platforms the game shipped on when it left its Early Version stage on September 15, 2026. The official FAQ states that cross-platform play is supported across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no exclusive pool and no separate crossplay edition to buy. There is no version of the game that sits outside the pool either, since PC covers both the Steam and Gaijin Store builds and Xbox One is not a supported platform at all. Existing mixed-platform groups can therefore queue together by leaving the console matchmaking scope at its widest setting.
Which platforms can play together
| Platform | Build | Crossplay | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC | Steam or Gaijin Store | Yes | The only pair that also shares progress is Steam and Gaijin.Net, both on PC |
| PlayStation 5 | PS Store version | Yes | Console matchmaking scope is selectable |
| Xbox Series X|S | Xbox store version | Yes | Xbox One is not a supported platform; the store lists the game as optimised for Series X|S |
| Xbox One | Not available | — | No Xbox One build exists, so no crossplay path |
The Xbox store listing additionally advertises Xbox cross-platform multiplayer and Xbox cross-platform co-op as capabilities, with online co-op listed for 2-3 players and online multiplayer for 2-16 players, and it notes that online multiplayer on console requires an Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate subscription sold separately. (single source) Those store-page capability labels line up with the official crossplay statement but are not repeated on the game's own site, so we attribute them to the store listing.

How the console matchmaking scope works
Console players get a real choice instead of a fixed pool. The official FAQ says a console player can set matchmaking to their own platform only, to consoles only, or to any platform, which is the setting to change if you want console-only lobbies or you specifically want to play with PC friends. PC players are not offered the same wording in the FAQ, so we only describe the console option here rather than guessing at a PC equivalent. Note that the scope decides who can be matched into your raid, not what the raid contains, so an isolated PvE raid stays player-free either way while a PvP-only zone stays PvP.
Crossplay is not cross-progression
This is the part that catches people out, and it is official rather than a launch-week bug. The official FAQ states that shared progress is available only between the Steam and Gaijin.Net versions on PC, so progress on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S lives in its own silo and cannot be carried to PC or back. Crossplay means you can play together; it does not mean your stash, unlocks or Harmonization Merits travel with you. If you are deciding which platform to buy on, that is the single most important fact to weigh, and our connect with Steam guide covers the account-linking side of it.

Where to go next
If you are choosing a platform, start with the PS5 version breakdown or the Xbox Series X|S breakdown, which cover store-specific detail. If crossplay is only part of your question and you want to know whether you can avoid other players entirely, the PvE guide explains isolated raids and zone restrictions. And if you are new to the game overall, our beginner guide covers the first hours, loadouts and the death rule.
FAQ
- Is Active Matter crossplay?
- Yes. The official FAQ states that cross-platform play is supported, and that players on console can set a matchmaking scope covering their own platform only, consoles only, or any platform.
- Can you cross-play between PC and PS5?
- Yes, as of September 21, 2026. Crossplay covers PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, so a console player who leaves the matchmaking scope at any platform can be matched with PC players.
- Does Active Matter have cross-progression?
- No. The official FAQ says shared progress is available only between the Steam and Gaijin.Net versions on PC, which means a console character and a PC character are separate. See our connect with Steam page for the account side of that limit.
- Is Active Matter a multiplayer game?
- Yes, it is an online extraction shooter: solo play is possible, but raids are hosted online, squads hold up to three players, and the main modes are PvPvE, PvP and a dedicated PvE mode.
- Do I need Xbox Game Pass to play Active Matter online on console?
- The Xbox store listing carries the standard console note that online multiplayer on console requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, sold separately. We could not find an equivalent statement on the official site, so treat it as store-page terms. (single source)
