Active Matter Dendroids: Where to Find Them

Active Matter dendroids explained: the raids where they spawn, what Remains of Dendroid is used for, and why the fight rewards melee over ranged.

Dendroids sit in an unusual spot in Active Matter: they are one of the easier things to kill, and simultaneously one of the more useful things to kill, because they drop a material the Body Sleeve system needs. That combination is why "where do dendroids spawn" is a real search rather than a curiosity. This page covers the three raids the studio has confirmed, what the drop is for, and how the fight differs from the anomaly fights players often confuse it with.

Where Dendroids spawn

The studio has named the locations directly, which is rare for enemy information in this game. The official "Fundamental Protocol" update, published on 24 September 2026, includes this line:

Added Dendroid spawns to the Headquarters, Cargo Port, and Dogorsk raids.

Treat those three as the confirmed list. It is worth noting the wording — spawns were added, which means Dendroids were not present in all of those raids before that patch, so older guides that describe Dendroid locations may predate the change. We have not found an official source listing every zone they appear in, so we are not going to guess at a complete map.

What they drop, and why it matters

Killing a Dendroid gives you Remains of Dendroid, an Uncommon item. The community-maintained Active Matter Wiki describes it in two ways that line up: it is "a component for fusing useful chronogenes, that can be used in Body Sleeve creation", and it can be crafted into Melee and Overflow Healing chronogenes for Body Sleeves at the Refinery.

That makes the drop part of the progression economy rather than vendor trash, and it explains why the same material family keeps appearing in patch notes. Official update 0.4.0.182, on 9 October 2026, added the Distorted remains Fusion recipe to the starting blueprint set — a different monster's remains, but the same system — which tells you these materials are meant to be used from early on. Our Body Sleeves page covers what the chronogenes feed into.

How the fight goes

The community consensus is that Dendroids are not the hard part of the game. In the official Steam forum thread that collects monster complaints, a reply lists the enemy order of difficulty explicitly: "They are more dangerous in groups. Distorted, invisibles, statues, and even melee dendroids are easier enemies." The "even melee dendroids" phrasing is the useful detail — it implies you can deal with them at melee range, which is the opposite of the advice for the anomaly fights.

The single caution attached to that is group size. The same reply opens with "They are more dangerous in groups", which is the general pattern in this game: the official Q&A says the studio is working on making some monsters prioritise players carrying more loot, so being swarmed is a design direction rather than an accident.

Dendroids versus the Statues

These two get confused constantly, and the practical difference is in the answers above. Dendroids are a creature you kill for a material, they spawn in named raids, and melee works. The Statues are an anomaly that most players recommend ignoring until you break their totem stones, where melee means standing still for around 130 hits and grenades are the safer route. If your search was really "how do I get past the stone thing", the Statues page is the one you want.

Where to go next

If you are farming the drop, the Body Sleeves page explains what the chronogenes unlock, and the Monolith page covers the progression ladder those unlocks sit on. For surviving the zones themselves, the guide covers loadouts and the death rule, and the PvE page explains how to farm without other players contesting the spawns.

FAQ

Where do Dendroids spawn in Active Matter?
Official update notes give three named raids. The "Fundamental Protocol" update of 24 September 2026 states that Dendroid spawns were added to the Headquarters, Cargo Port and Dogorsk raids, so those three are the confirmed locations rather than a general "they are everywhere".
What do Dendroids drop?
Remains of Dendroid, an Uncommon item. The community-maintained Active Matter Wiki describes it as a component for fusing useful chronogenes that can be used in Body Sleeve creation, and as craftable into Melee and Overflow Healing chronogenes at the Refinery.
How do you kill a Dendroid?
Players report that Dendroids are among the easier enemies in the game. One reply on the official Steam forum lists "statues, and even melee dendroids" as easier than the Distorted and Invisibles, which is the opposite of how the Statue fight is described.
Are Dendroids dangerous in groups?
The same forum reply says they are more dangerous in groups, which is the one caution attached to an otherwise straightforward fight. It is player-reported rather than an official statement.
Why are Dendroid remains worth picking up?
Because they feed the chronogene system that Body Sleeves run on. Official update 0.4.0.182 added the Distorted remains Fusion recipe to the starting blueprint set, which shows the same family of materials is part of early progression rather than a late-game curio.
