Active Matter Release Date: Sep 15, 2026
Active Matter release date: the game launched on September 15, 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, after a paid Early Version that began September 9, 2025.
Active Matter released on September 15, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — the day the game reached 1.0 and the first day it was sold on Steam or on any console. A paid Early Version had already been on sale since September 9, 2025, but only through the Gaijin Store, which is why older headlines describe the game as an unfinished pre-release product. Both dates are real, and they describe the same game at two different stages. As of September 21, 2026 the game is fully released on the current build 0.4.0.122, so nothing here is waiting on a launch and no storefront sells it as a pre-release build.

Every entry above comes from Gaijin's own store listings and announcements rather than from aggregator pages. The one-line version is that the 2025 date opened paid access on Gaijin's own store, and the 2026 date is the retail release that put the game on Steam and on both consoles. If you are checking whether the game is out yet, the second date is the one that answers the question.
The full release timeline
Active Matter's first playable test was a playtest on December 3, 2024, which grew into four closed beta rounds; the results of the fourth round were published on June 20, 2025. On August 19, 2025 Gaijin opened pre-orders for the Early Version and set the launch date of September 9, 2025, offering three editions — Advanced, Premium and Elite Squad — with a 10% pre-order discount that ran until the Early Version went live, plus the exclusive Rebel Body Sleeve as a pre-order gift. That build was exclusive to the Gaijin Store and never appeared on Steam. From November 6, 2025 the studio also ran time-limited Steam demos, which is how most players first saw the game before launch.
What changed on September 15, 2026
September 15, 2026 is the release date that matters for buyers today: the game left its paid pre-release phase and launched as version 1.0 on Steam, the Gaijin Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at once. Steam had never carried a pre-release build, so for Steam users this was the game's first appearance on the platform. The Premium edition was renamed Deluxe at the same time, which is why 2025 listings and 2026 listings use different names for the top tier. Gaijin had already answered the question players cared about most, confirming it did not plan to wipe any progress when the game left the Early Version — so Early Version accounts carried their progress into the release build instead of starting over.

Same-day unlock on all three platforms
Gaijin published a Worldwide Launch Times announcement on September 14, 2026, telling players to check their own local release time instead of quoting a single global hour. The release-date teaser published in August 2026 named all three platforms — Steam, Xbox Series X|S and PS5 — and that is what shipped: one launch date across PC and both consoles rather than staggered regional windows. There is no countdown left to wait for, because the game has been live since September 15, 2026.

Did the Early Version wipe?
No. Gaijin's January 2026 developer Q&A answered that directly: the studio did not plan to wipe any progress upon the game's full release, and no wipe happened at launch. That answer is worth keeping separate from the seasonal system, where Harmonization Cycles and the optional self-wipe are live-game features rather than launch events. The wipe page covers what those resets do to your stash and what survives them.
What happened after launch
The current build is 0.4.0.122, which arrived on September 18, 2026 with an experimental Body Sleeve appearance-correction mode, following 0.4.0.115 on September 17. Gaijin said its post-release roadmap would be published within a couple of weeks after release, which means it had not appeared yet as of September 21, 2026. The patch notes page tracks the version line from 0.4.0.76 onwards, and price and editions explains what each edition actually contains.

FAQ
- When did Active Matter come out?
- September 15, 2026. The full release (1.0) shipped that day on PC through Steam and the Gaijin Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A paid Early Version had already been live on the Gaijin Store since September 9, 2025, and Gaijin announced the 2026 date in August of that year.
- Was Active Matter in early access before launch?
- It had an Early Version rather than a Steam early access period. From September 9, 2025 the paid Early Version was sold only through the Gaijin Store, and Steam never carried a pre-release build of the game. Some coverage calls that period early access; the official name is Early Version, and it ended on September 15, 2026.
- Did Active Matter wipe progress at release?
- No. Gaijin answered this in a January 2026 Q&A, stating it did not plan to wipe any progress when the game left the Early Version, and no wipe took place at launch. Seasonal resets are a separate system — see the wipe page.
- What time did Active Matter unlock?
- Gaijin published a Worldwide Launch Times announcement on September 14, 2026 and pointed players to their own local release time. Official sources do not quote a single global hour for the unlock; what they do confirm is that the game went live on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 15, 2026.
- Is Active Matter out on Steam now?
- Yes, since September 15, 2026, alongside the Gaijin Store version. Players who bought the Early Version through the Gaijin Store can claim the Steam copy free by linking accounts before November 23, 2026 — see connect with Steam.
